Pace Weekend

A couple weekends ago, Matt and I went to White Plains to visit Pace University for its Admitted Student Day. During these open houses, the school tries to show you what to expect and basically sell you on going there. There was a student panel of 1Ls who answered people's questions regarding the first year of law school. The Dean spoke about the school and its place in the community. They asked that the students attending the open house to read 2 case briefs which Matt read to me when we were driving up to Cherry Hill to stay with Nick the night before. The case is fascinating to me and I enjoyed listening to the students and professor discuss the points of the case. Afterwards, they had a social luncheon where around 20 professors mingled and asked and answered questions.

The school offers many opportunities for internships in environmental law in which Matt is interested. One of the short comings may be that the school focuses on environmental and international law and if Matt decides that he is not interested in those two avenues then he may not be afforded the opportunities he could have at other schools. Another thing we noticed was many students were there with their parents and just seemed really young. Maybe not the best environment for an older student like Matt. However, Pace did offer Matt a substantial merit scholarship so we can't count them out. Being right outside the city, is a definite plus for this school as well.

After a tour of the campus we headed to Brian and Melissa's in Hackensack. Brian and Melissa recently closed on their first home. When we got there, the boys, Melissa and her mom were knee deep in wallpaper stripping. The house was really cute and I wish them luck in with their renovations. We got tickets to see the Sabers vs. Rangers at Madison Square Garden. I have never been to a hockey game before and it was REALLY fun!  Before the game, we headed to this bar in Hoboken and had a great time. It was really lively for being mid-afternoon. The music was great and the guys loved the cute server. The guys ordered 50 wings to split between the 4 of them and I had never seen anything like it before. The guys were ravenous, it was like they hadn't eaten in weeks, it was entertaining to say the least.

I love the array of smiles

Multitasking

Car-bombs with the cute server (she wouldn't let me take her photo)

Where did all the wings go?

As I wrote before, I had never been to a hockey game, NHL or any other league and I really thought it was a great time. The crowd is different than other crowds. The game is so fast that you really can't take your eyes off the ice or you will miss something so people get upset if you stand up and move around when there is a puck in play. I love the fast pace nature of the game but I don't really like not being able to move around whenever I want (you know how I am about the bathroom).

Good view of the ice

After the game, we went to this bar in the city and realized when we got there they were doing Karaoke. It wasn't like the karaoke that I have seen in Virginia, everyone was into it. People were entertaining and many people could actually sing. I always said there was no way I would sing Karaoke but I had some liquid courage and it was a big group of people so I sang Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen and it was really fun, even though we were booed because of the Saber garb that Steve and Brian were wearing. 2 Saber fans felt the camaraderie and jumped onstage with us. So fun!

Thunder bolt of lightning very very frightening!

Bri!

Nicky!

seconds before a mess

love him

A little street dancing

Nothing like a little synchronized dancing at the train station

I wish I had gotten a video of Steve doing the Thriller dance. Hilarious!
Look how serious he is!

The weekend was really fun and it was a wake-up call to how close Matt is to making a decision about law school.

Little did I know then that I would be going to Denver the next weekend. Stay tuned!

If a picture tells 1,000 words you can only imagine how great this weekend was...
